A Ray of Hope
December 7, 2023Pushparaj is a 13 year old child with Cerebral Palsy. He lived with his mother who is a tailor and his father who does pipe fabrication and was out of work due to Covid. Pushparaj’s mother reached out to Justice and Hope, requesting help for him to continue his education so that he grows up to be independent. The family had a domestic issue that was flagged to us. The staff from Justice and Hope counselled them after visiting them at their home.
After a few follow-up calls and an assessment with one of the institutions, Pushparaj’s mother was advised to keep him at home and teach him. She wasn’t convinced and insisted on a formal education. The team went ahead and after looking at many institutions identified the Government Institute for Mentally Retarded in Tambaram. The institution gives vocational skill training along with education.
The parents visited the institute and were satisfied as well. Pushparaj was formally admitted there. After a few days, the authorities of the institute informed us that he was settling in well. The team has been following up with the family on Pushparaj’s well-being.
Recently the team visited the Government Institute for the Mentally Retarded, Tambaram for the Children’s Day celebration. The team met Pushparaj, who enthusiastically participated in the games conducted by them. Pushparaj’s mother has been offered a caretaker job in the same institute.
